Mats Ahlstedt

Sentenced for Life

(Dömd för livet)

Tony Blomstrand has been in jail 23 years for the murder of his girlfriend Marianne. When released, he returns to his parent’s home in Marstrand with the intention of starting a new life. But somebody has other plans for him.

In the street, Tony meets Elin, one of Marianne’s best friends at that time, and also an important witness in the trial. She walks him to his car, and then disappears completely. Elin’s husband Urban visits Tony in his family home to ask him about Elin. Shortly afterwards is he murdered. The police are convinced Tony is out for a bloody revenge, and so is the retired prosecutor Karl-Gustaf Rosén, who starts to fear for his life. Then Marianne’s daughter shows up in search of the man who could be her biological father. She believes Tony is and was innocent of the terrible murders and she has every reason to want to find out the truth about what happened that summer 23 years ago.

Mats Ahlstedt spent his early years in Jämtland where his father was a vicar. The family moved to Göteborg and his father started to work at the prison. That is probably where young Mats’ interest in good and evil, crime and punishment, was born. Mats Ahlstedt is married and has two children, two grandchildren and Sweden’s laziest dog, a Shetland Sheepdog who accompanies Mats on endless walks, carefully investigating every trace and giving his master time to think of murderous intrigues.
